Short, sweet, and to the point are the markers of our “time.” Or should I say “bittersweet.” I’ve lived long enough to have witnessed many changes. Things that were once all around me… a part of everyday life, have come and gone. Yet, isn’t that true of every generation? Man’s evolution / evolving. Change is inherent.
There’s nothing extraordinary in my humanity that prompts such reflection. Being in the “fourth quarter,” so to speak, I find myself reflective.
Gratefully, I have had many inside changes. Often mistaken only as struggles. I searched for meaning. I searched for understanding. Some connection to fill this “thing” inside that I could not quite identify. The “thing” that sets our species apart from others. Mining the depths of our material world for fulfillment: lustful desires, things, toys, clothes, relationships, work, food, music, money, power, drugs… wisdom and great intellect… Left longing still. Unable to shake the intense pull for “something more.”
Driven to the depths of despair and the brink of sanity. The longing, the void…was the beginning of my journey. I am grateful for that start. Now I understand two things that I often hear:
Whatever it takes.
We are the lucky ones.
